Job Summary

To provide high-quality, evidence-based physiotherapy assessment and treatment to patients within the VIM Health caseload. At this level, the post holder will primarily see bursary-funded patients autonomously or work under the regular supervision of a Senior or Specialist Therapist. The Junior Therapist is developing toward autonomous practice and should proactively seek clinical guidance, book joint sessions for learning, and use supervision to build confidence and competency across a broad range of presentations. 

This role is suitable for newly qualified therapists or those in the early stages of their career. The post holder is not expected to hold independent medico-legal responsibility or to lead on clinical services at this stage. 

Main Duties and Responsibilities 

Clinical Practice 

  1. Adhere to and apply the HCPC Standards of Proficiency and the relevant professional body code of conduct at all times. 
  1. Carry a supervised caseload primarily comprising bursary-funded general neurological (Stroke, MS, PD, TBI) or musculoskeletal patients, ensuring high-quality, patient-centred, evidence-based care. 
  1. Conduct assessments and formulate treatment plans under the guidance of a supervising Senior or Specialist Therapist, developing clinical reasoning skills progressively. 
  1. Obtain valid informed consent prior to all assessments and interventions. 
  1. Use validated, standardised outcome measures to evaluate patient progress and adjust treatment programmes accordingly, reporting findings to your supervising therapist. 
  1. Implement individualised rehabilitation programmes using a range of treatment techniques appropriate to your scope of practice and current competency level. 
  1. Participate in group therapy sessions and home exercise programme delivery as directed. 
  1. Develop familiarity with VIM’s technology-assisted rehabilitation adjuncts (e.g. NMES, robotic equipment) under the guidance of senior colleagues. Maintain competency sign off on all equipment within your scope of practice. 
  1. Proactively book joint sessions with your supervising therapist to develop clinical skills and address caseload challenges. 
  1. Perform informal and formal clinical risk assessments within your caseload and escalate concerns to your supervisor promptly. 
  1. Maintain sensitivity to the emotional, psychological, and social needs of patients and their families at all times. 

Record Keeping and Administration 

  1. Maintain accurate, comprehensive, and up-to-date electronic patient records in Jane App in line with HCPC/CSP standards and VIM policy. 
  1. Complete appointment records and billing entries by the start of the following working day. 
  1. Produce clinical correspondence (e.g. discharge letters, GP updates, referral letters) with support and review from a Senior or Specialist Therapist. 
  1. Document all relevant communications with or relating to patients (email, telephone, verbal) in the clinical record. 
  1. Submit all notes within 24 hours of a patient contact and reports within 72 hours, unless an extension is agreed in advance with your supervisor. 
  1. Document all accidents and incidents in line with VIM reporting procedures. 
  1. Adhere to UK GDPR 2021 and the Data Protection Act 2018 in all handling of patient and organisational information. 

Communication 

  1. Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and empathy with patients, carers, and families across a range of neurological and communication impairments (including aphasia, cognitive impairment, and acquired communication difficulties). 
  1. Communicate clinical information effectively to patients and carers to support engagement with their rehabilitation programme. 
  1. Seek guidance from your supervising therapist before sending written communication to third parties (solicitors, case managers, other health professionals). 
  1. Ensure all written correspondence uses VIM branded templates and includes the standard company email disclosure. 
  1. Maintain strict confidentiality in all communications in line with VIM policy and professional standards. 

Professional Development 

  1. Take responsibility for your own CPD, maintaining a reflective portfolio in line with HCPC re-registration requirements. 
  1. Actively engage with VIM’s in-service training (IST) programme and attend all mandatory training sessions (manual handling, CPR, first aid, infection control). 
  1. Actively participate in clinical supervision with your designated Senior or Specialist Therapist, contributing reflective accounts and case material.  
  1. Complete your VIM competency framework sign-off within agreed timescales. 
  1. Set and review personal learning objectives at each PDR (half-yearly and annual). 
  1. Develop foundational skills in VIM’s technology adjuncts; flag any learning needs to your supervisor. 

Organisational 

  1. Manage your own diary and caseload to ensure adequate time for clinical contact, travel, administration, and supervision. 
  1. Proactively flag workload concerns or foreseeable capacity issues to your supervisor a minimum of one week in advance. 
  1. Assist with stock checks, equipment maintenance records, and administrative tasks as directed. 
  1. Adhere to all VIM policies and procedures including annual leave, sickness reporting, health and safety, and infection control. 

Service Development and Education 

  1. Participate in VIM service development activities, including data collection, pathway evaluation, and clinical meetings. 
  1. Contribute to at least one internal presentation or knowledge-sharing activity per year. 
  1. Support and assist with VIM group therapy programmes and patient education resources. 
  1. Take an active interest in quality improvement and, where appropriate, contribute to audit data collection. 
Category Requirement 
ESSENTIAL Degree in Physiotherapy (BSc or MSc) 
 Current HCPC registration 
 Membership of CSP
 Valid enhanced DBS certificate 
 Newly qualified or up to 2 years post-qualifying experience (NQP applicants welcome) 
 Demonstrable commitment to patient-centred, evidence-based practice 
 Strong written and verbal communication skills 
 Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email) 
 Valid UK driving licence 
DESIRABLE Experience or placement in a neurological rehabilitation setting 
 Experience or placement in a musculoskeletal or community rehabilitation setting 
 Familiarity with outcome measures relevant to neurological or MSK rehabilitation 
 Participation in audit, QIP or service evaluation 
 Experience using digital patient record systems (e.g. Jane App, SystmOne, EMIS)
