About ALFESS™

ALFESS™ is a digital foot drop orthosis that uses Functional Electrical Stimulation to support safe, efficient, and confident walking. The system applies controlled electrical impulses to the nerves that activate the muscles responsible for lifting the foot. This helps the user clear the ground during every step and reduces the risk of tripping.

The device sits comfortably on the lower limb below the knee. Sensors placed on the skin gather real-time information about walking speed, leg angles, and movement patterns. An adaptive algorithm interprets these signals and delivers stimulation precisely when it’s needed, creating a smoother and more natural gait.

Its ergonomic design includes a curved shell for comfort and a magnetic clasp, allowing quick and easy donning and doffing — even one-handed. The system can be used on one leg or both, offering flexibility for a range of clinical needs. Charging is simple, and the device is operated through the cuff, a handheld remote, or a mobile app.

Following fitting by a certified Orthotist, users can adjust stimulation levels and switch between “walking mode” for day-to-day activity and “training mode” for targeted rehabilitation sessions. This allows users to work independently or alongside a physiotherapist to support long-term gait improvement.

Who Can Use The ALFESS™?

ALFESS™ is recommended for individuals experiencing foot drop caused by a central nervous system condition, including:

• Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
• Stroke (CVA)
• Cerebral Palsy (CP)
• Incomplete Spinal Cord Injury
• Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)

This technology is designed for people with an intact peripheral nerve supply to the muscles of the lower limb.
