What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational therapy focuses on improving your ability to take part in meaningful daily activities — the things that matter most to you. Our experienced OTs assess your needs and create a tailored plan that may include:

  • Practical strategies for daily living, such as dressing, cooking, or personal care

  • Specialist exercises to improve fine motor skills and hand strength

  • Recommendations for equipment and home adaptations

  • Advice on energy conservation, fatigue management and sleep hygiene

  • Guidance to help you return to work or hobbies after injury or illness

  • Postural assessments which may include positioning systems for the bed and advice on wheelchairs or static seating.

Conditions We Support

Our occupational therapists have expertise in supporting adults with:

  • Stroke rehabilitation

  • Brain injury rehabilitation (including traumatic brain injury)

  • Spinal cord injury rehabilitation

  • Multiple sclerosis (MS)

  • Cerebral palsy

  • Parkinson’s disease

  • Arthritis and joint conditions

  • Dementia and memory difficulties

  • Hand injuries and upper limb conditions

Common Challenges We Can Help With

You don’t need to know the term “occupational therapy” to benefit from it. People come to us when they:

  • Struggle with daily tasks after illness or injury

  • Want to regain independence after a hospital stay

  • Need support adapting their home or workplace

  • Experience weakness or reduced coordination in hands or arms

  • Feel anxious about managing daily life after a diagnosis

  • Want to learn new ways of doing activities they enjoy

At Vim Health, our neurological occupational therapy service is here to help you regain the skills, strength, and confidence to take part in everyday life after brain or spinal cord injury.

Whether you’re returning to work, learning new ways to manage daily tasks, or adapting your environment to live more independently, our OTs work closely with you to find practical, empowering solutions.

Our Holistic Approach

At Vim, we take a whole-person approach and our occupational therapists work hand-in-hand with you. If you’re working with other healthcare professionals such as speech and language therapists or Physiotherapists, they work collaborative with them to build a treatment plan tailored to you.

Your programme may include:

  • Upper limb therapy, including strengthening, splinting, and robotics

  • Functional activities like dressing, cooking, and handwriting

  • Cognitive strategies to support attention, memory, and planning

  • Postural support and movement strategies for everyday tasks

  • Home visits to assess and adapt your environment

  • Equipment recommendations, such as bathroom aids or grab rails

  • Care planning advice for ongoing support needs

Whether you’re aiming to improve your hand function, manage fatigue, or adapt your home for safe mobility – our team is here to support your progress every step of the way.
