Pilates is a form of exercise that has been around for over 100 years. Known for its ability to strengthen the core muscles, improve flexibility, and reduce stress, it is an excellent exercise for people with neurological conditions. In this Vim Healthcare article, we will look at our newest piece of equipment, the Cadillac Reformer, and discuss how this pilates trapeze table has benefited our neurorehabilitation centre.
The Story of Pilates
The Pilates Trapeze Table, (also now known as the Cadillac Reformer), was invented by Joseph Pilates, the creator of the Pilates method. The original design was created in the 1940s and was used as a rehabilitation tool for injured soldiers during World War II. Pilates designed the Trapeze Table to allow for various exercises that could be performed in different body positions, using spring resistance and a variety of attachments to help improve strength, flexibility, and overall fitness. Today, the Reformer is a popular piece of equipment used in Pilates studios and fitness centres worldwide.
Special thanks to The Ciao Foundation
In February of this year, The Ciao Foundation kindly donated the funds for us to purchase our very own Cadillac Reformer, which has proved incredibly useful. Many of our clients have neurological conditions and benefit from its design. The Reformer offers increased support whilst working on more strenuous movements and combining elements of Pilates and Yoga to create a unique and effective workout.
It can be used to perform a multitude of exercises specifically designed to target the muscles and joints affected by neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, and Stroke.
All the Features:
- Padded table surface: The trapeze table has a comfortable, padded surface that provides support and cushioning during exercises.
- Springs: The table is equipped with springs of varying resistance levels that can be adjusted to accommodate different levels of fitness and exercise goals.
- Bars: The table features a variety of bars of different lengths and shapes, which can be used to perform a wide range of exercises.
- Straps: Straps are attached to the table to support different body parts during exercises, such as the upper or lower limbs.
All the benefits
One of the main benefits of a trapeze table is that it provides a low-impact workout that is easy on the joints. This is especially important for someone who may experience stiffness, weakness, or joint pain due to a neurological condition. A Trapeze Table allows you to perform exercises in a controlled environment, with straps, springs, and other equipment that can support the load and help reduce the impact.
We have found the Cadillac Reformer to be an excellent addition to our neurorehabilitation programs. Many neuro conditions affect your balance and coordination, making it difficult to perform everyday activities like walking, reaching, and standing. A Trapeze Table provides stability and support to help you improve your balance and coordination while strengthening your core muscles.
Improves flexibility and range of motion
Muscle stiffness and limited mobility, often found with neurological conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis, can make it challenging to perform basic movements. A Trapeze Table allows you to perform a variety of stretches and exercises that can help to increase your flexibility and range of motion while also reducing muscle tension and stiffness.
Patricia Pina is a regular client visiting our neuro rehab centre. Of all of our equipment here at Vim Health, she says the Cadillac Reformer is her favourite;
“I love using the Reformer because there is so much I can do with it. It’s adaptable for everyone and can be used for many different injuries at different levels of ability. It’s never something i’ll get bored of using because it challenges me in so many ways.”
– Patricia Pina
It’s safe to say that the Reformer has had a positive impact at Vim Health, with our neuro rehab clients and gym members making great use of it. Whether you are recovering from a stroke, managing the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, or recovering from a brain injury, the Pilates Trapeze Table can help you to stay active, healthy, and independent.
